ABOUT US
Hi, I’m Frey, the creator behind MadebyFrey.com. My journey to creating this brand has been deeply personal, and it’s rooted in both my passion for crafting and my struggles in finding fulfillment in life.
Growing up in an East Asian family, I was always surrounded by a culture that values hard work and achievement. As a child, I loved making things with my hands. I watched my aunt sew and create things with such care, which left a lasting impression on me. I began making clothes for my dolls and knitting small items, but as I grew older, I pushed those interests aside to focus on what I thought was the "right" career path.
After college, I spent ten years in the corporate world, working my way up to an executive role. But despite outward success, I struggled with anxiety, depression, and chronic back pain. I found myself feeling unfulfilled, constantly battling sleepless nights and emotional breakdowns. I was often confused as to why I couldn’t find joy despite all my achievements.
Through therapy and deep self-reflection, I realized that I had been neglecting my true passions and needs. I was living for the expectations of others, and I wasn’t doing what made me feel alive. That’s when I decided to reconnect with what made me happiest as a child: creating things by hand. I picked up fabric and began making small items that brought me joy. And in that moment, I found peace and fulfillment that had been missing for so long.
MadebyFrey is my way of sharing what I love with the world. We offer handmade bags, accessories, and functional items like book sleeves, iPad sleeves, and sunglass cases. I also make crochet and knitted bags, but most of my products are made from fabric. I focus on quality, ensuring every piece is made with care and attention to detail.
I used to think strength came from being detached and minimal, but now I realize that true strength comes from embracing what makes you happy. It's the little things—the cute cat bag charms, the soft fabrics, the small, thoughtful designs—that make life a little brighter.
When I see someone stop and admire a handmade piece, or when a random conversation starts because of the little black cat embroidered on rustic fabric, I feel the true value of this journey. It’s not just about selling products; it’s about the connections and emotions that are created through them.
I don’t know where MadebyFrey will go, but I know I’m doing what makes me happy, and I won’t compromise on the quality. My hope is that these products bring a bit of joy and warmth into your life, just as they’ve brought into mine.
